About the DIY Biochar category

The Biochar mission seeks to explore production and utilization of biochar on small scale, to help individuals with interest in carbon dioxide removal learn how biochar can be harnessed in creative and do-it-yourself ways.

Biochar is perhaps the most ancient and low-technology way humans have discovered to deliberately fix carbon that was in the atmosphere, into a form that is sequestered for at least centuries. But just because there have long been ways to make biochar, does not mean we cannot devise more efficient and environmentally benign approaches. Further, the uses of biochar that might have been apparent to ancient people may not be the uses we will find most attractive. But until the average person has some access to biochar, how can they discover how best to use it?

Any experiments with biochar production or utilization can be discussed in this category.
