June 2023 Status

Carbon Crowd seeks to promote OpenAir internal R&D mission results to a larger audience by implementing device builds with a focus on incorporating new innovations and complete documentation for open-source sharing. The current focus is the THURSDAY DAC unit - specifying a build and verifying the operation. Based on current progress, the main challenges are to identify a sorbent that is economical and effective, to modify the design for dehumidifying the air prior to sorption, and to determine if HVAC-type air dampers will provide sufficient seal to desorb CO2.

Although the initial efforts with the THURSDAY DAC device used PEI on silica gel, the Carbon Crowd effort is now considering a zeolite sorbent for practical reasons. The current status of the project is being tracked in a Google Document - contact David Wilson for access.
